CXO Drive is pleased to congratulate Ashwani Devgune on his promotion from Senior Deputy General Manager to General Manager at Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID)—a milestone that reflects over two decades of consistent performance, technical excellence, and strategic leadership in the power transmission sector. Ashwani’s journey with POWERGRID is marked by a strong foundation in field execution and construction leadership. Early in his career as an Executive Trainee, he played a key role in the construction of some of North India’s critical 400 kV transmission corridors, including the 400 kV Dhauliganga– Bareilly Transmission Line, followed by the 400 kV Bareilly–Moradabad line, LILO of 400 kV Bareilly–Mandola, and LILO of 400 kV Lucknow– Sultanpur, implemented under the NRSS-I framework.
These projects were instrumental in strengthening regional grid reliability and showcased his hands-on capability in executing complex EHV transmission works under challenging conditions. Building on this strong execution background, Ashwani has since evolved into a leader in international business development and project structuring, culminating in his pivotal role in the Kenya Transmission PPP Project landmark initiative that stands as Kenya’s first Independent Power Transmission (IPT) project and POWERGRID’s first project-financed transmission project in Africa. The project represents a significant step forward in enabling private participation in transmission infrastructure and expanding India’s PSU expertise on a global platform.
In his current role, Ashwani is responsible for identifying, structuring, and advancing international transmission opportunities across Africa, Australasia, and the Middle East, with a strong focus on PPP models, project financing, and institutional partnerships. His ability to seamlessly bridge ground-level execution experience with board-level strategic thinking has been a defining strength of his leadership journey. Recognised for his discipline, strategic insight, and ability to navigate complex multi-stakeholder and cross-jurisdictional environments, Ashwani Devgune exemplifies POWERGRID’s leadership values—technical depth, integrity, and long-term value creation.
