Sobhan Choudhury has been appointed as AVP – Head of Total Rewards, HR Tech and Analytics at Ion Exchange India Ltd, marking an important addition to the company’s HR leadership team. In this role, Sobhan leads the strategic design and execution of reward structures, benefits programs, and data-driven people practices across the organization. Based in Mumbai, he is responsible for ensuring that Ion Exchange’s compensation philosophy, HR technology, and workforce analytics align seamlessly with its business growth and employee engagement goals.
With over a decade of rich experience in human resources and compensation strategy, Sobhan has carved a niche in the space of Total Rewards, HR Technology, and People Analytics. He brings a unique blend of analytical rigor and people-centric thinking — overseeing functions that determine not just “what to pay” but also “why and how” compensation decisions drive performance and culture. His leadership approach bridges empathy with data-driven insights, ensuring that HR systems not only record information but narrate meaningful organizational stories.
Before joining Ion Exchange India Ltd, Sobhan served as Deputy Vice President – Rewards and Incentives at Kotak Life, where he was instrumental in crafting compensation frameworks, incentive programs, and performance-based reward mechanisms. His tenure at Kotak strengthened his expertise in linking pay with performance, optimizing reward strategies, and ensuring alignment with organizational KPIs.
Previously, he spent over two years with Welspun World, where he held leadership roles including Assistant General Manager – HR. There, he drove compensation and benefits strategies across India and international operations, led manpower budgeting, and spearheaded HR analytics initiatives that enhanced decision-making efficiency. His earlier experiences with Godrej Consumer Products, Capital Foods, and Encube Ethicals further solidified his foundation in HR business partnering, employee benefits design, and organizational development.
