Girish Tanti appointed as Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA)
Girish Tanti, the former vice chairman of Suzlon, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA). Alongside Tanti’s leadership, Saravanan Manickam, the Country Head (VP India) for Nordex, has been promoted to vice chairman and secretary, while K Bharathy, CEO of Windar Renewable Energy, will serve as the treasurer. This new leadership team is set to drive growth and innovation in India’s wind energy sector.
Girish highlights the urgent need to triple global renewable energy production by 2030 to meet the climate goal of limiting temperature rises to 1.5 degrees Celsius. India is targeting 50 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030, with 100 GW of that energy expected to come from wind power. Given the current capacity at 47 GW, this requires an additional 53 GW to meet these ambitious targets.
Strengthening the industrial ecosystem for wind energy is critical for India to reach its net-zero goals and to establish itself as a global renewable energy supply chain hub. Tanti believes that realizing this potential will require consistent government support through effective policies and incentives, which encourage investments in green energy initiatives.
As IWTMA’s new chairman, Girish is expected to advocate strongly for the industry, promoting measures that will drive the rapid expansion of India’s renewable energy capabilities and help meet national and global climate targets.
